Pursuant to the Committee's duties set out in paragraph 55(1)(d) of the Australian Crime Commission Act 2002:

to examine trends and changes in criminal activities, practices and methods and report to both House of the Parliament any change which the Committee thinks desirable to the functions, structure, powers and procedures of the ACC;

The Committee will inquire into the future impact of serious and organised crime on Australian society.

With particular reference to:

  1. Future trends in serious and organised crime activities, practices and methods and their impact on Australian society;
  2. Strategies for countering future serious and organised crime;
  3. The economic cost of countering future organised crime at a national and state and territory level; and
  4. The adequacy of legislative and administrative arrangements, including the adequacy of cross-jurisdictional databases, to meet future needs.

The Committee requests that where possible, submissions should also be provided by email to acc.committee@aph.gov.au, preferably as MS Word 97 or RTF format documents. Notes to assist in preparing submissions are available from the website http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/committee/wit_sub/index.htm.

Once the Committee accepts your submission, it becomes a confidential committee document and is protected by Parliamentary Privilege. You must not release your submission without the Committee's permission. If you do, it is not protected by Parliamentary Privilege. At some stage during the inquiry, the Committee normally makes submissions public. Please contact the secretariat if you want your submission to be kept confidential.
