National Crime Authority Legislation Amendment Bill 2000

Information about the inquiry

The Senate has directed this Committee to conduct an inquiry into the National Crime Authority Legislation Amendment Bill 2000 and report by 1 March 2001. The Bill implements the Government's response to the Committee's April 1998 report entitled Third Evaluation of the National Crime Authority and addresses a number of matters relating to the administration and operations of the Authority.

The Committee invites interested persons or organisations wishing to express their views on the legislation to lodge a submission by Wednesday, 31 January 2001 with:

The Committee will consider all submissions and may invite submittors to give supporting evidence at a public hearing scheduled to be held in Canberra on 9 February 2001. Submissions become Committee documents and are made public only after a decision by the Committee. Persons making submissions must not release them without the approval of the Committee. Submissions are covered by parliamentary privilege but the unauthorised release of them is not.
