The House of Representatives Trade and Investment Growth Committee will boldly go where no committee has gone before this week, with a hearing on Friday looking to the stars. Committee Chair George Christensen says the hearing is part of a broader inquiry to seek out and explore the challenges and opportunities faced by Australia’s exporters. ‘One of the issues we’ll be looking at on Friday is the potential impact of future export and investment opportunities, including emerging sectors such as Australia’s space industry.’ ‘Australia has an opportunity to be a big part of the growing space industry, which will generate innovation, new technologies and jobs for the future.’ The Committee will also hear from witnesses in the medicines and health, agriculture and advanced manufacturing industries, as well as small business representatives. ‘We know that small businesses are underrepresented in export markets, and often don’t have the significant resources needed to move into exports,’ Mr Christensen said. ‘We are looking forward to hearing about how Australian small businesses can be supported to succeed internationally.’ More information about the inquiry, including a full program for Friday’s public hearing, is available on the Committee’s webpage. An inquiry into supporting Australia’s export market is exporting the work of the federal parliament to Sydney, where it will hold a hearing on Friday.

An inquiry into supporting Australia’s export market is exporting the work of the federal parliament to Sydney, where it will hold a hearing on Friday. Trade and Investment Growth Committee Chair, Mr George Christensen MP, says the Committee will hear from exporters in the advanced manufacturing, video games, sugar, wine, seafood, tourism, transport-related safety products and financial services sectors at the hearing. ‘From tourism to video games, Australia offers a staggering range of products and services to the world,’ Mr Christensen said. ‘We are looking forward to hearing from this huge range of industries and businesses about how the government can assist them to grow their export capabilities and attract investment.’ The inquiry, which focuses on attracting investment, identifying regulatory barriers and identifying best practice in the export market, was launched in August of this year.   On Friday, 18 October 2019, the Trade and Investment Growth Committee is holding a public hearing in Canberra as part of its Inquiry into Supporting Australia’s Exports and Attracting Investment. Representatives from the business, education, defence export, agricultural and film and entertainment sectors will meet with the Committee to discuss how to boost Australian exports and stimulate investment. The Committee is looking into Australian businesses' ambitions to grow via export and attracting investment; local regulatory barriers to businesses being able to realise their ambitions; and best practice regulation that evidence shows supports export and investment growth, whilst protecting the national interest.
