Impact of Climate Risk on Insurance Premiums and Availability

On 16 May 2024, the Senate resolved that the Select Committee on the Impact of Climate Risk on Insurance Premiums and Availability be established.

The submissions closing date is 2 July 2024

The committee was originally due to report by 19 November 2024.

On 19 November 2024, the Committee's reporting date was extended to 26 November 2024

The committee is presented its report on 26 November 2024.

The tabling of the final report on 26 November 2024 concludes the work of the committee.

Role of the committee

The committee’s role is to gather and analyse evidence and to present a report, with recommendations, to the Parliament. Central to the committee’s inquiry is that it receive evidence from disaster-affected communities to inform its report.

Submitters should note that the committee is not able to examine or provide advice on individual cases, recommend remedies for any person or advocate on individual matters. Therefore, the committee cannot act on, overturn, or influence decisions made in relation to insurance claims or disputes.
