Inquiry into the provisions of the Sex Discrimination Amendment (Teaching Profession) Bill 2004

On 23 March 2004, the Senate referred the provisions of the Sex Discrimination Amendment (Teaching Profession) Bill 2004 to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 11 May 2004.

The Bill amends the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 to permit the provision of scholarships to persons of one sex in relation to school teaching courses. The purpose of the Bill is to address gender imbalance in the teaching profession, in particular the shortage of males in pre-school and primary school teaching.
