Inquiry into the Provisions of the National Security Information (Criminal Proceedings) Bill 2004 and the National Security Information (Criminal Proceedings) (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2004

On 16 June 2004, the Senate referred the provisions of the above Bills to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 19 August 2004.

The Bills seek to protect information from disclosure during a proceeding for a Commonwealth offence where the disclosure is likely to prejudice Australia’s national security.

Submissions are called for by 2 July 2004. Submissions become Committee documents and are only made public after a decision by the Committee.
