Joint Standing Committee on Treaties
Minor Treaty Actions Currently Under Review
Minor Treaty Actions, or Category 3 treaty actions, include treaty actions that do not impact significantly on the national interest and are likely to have negligible financial or legal effect within Australia.
The Committee has the discretion to inquire formally into minor treaty actions or indicate its acceptance of them without a formal inquiry. If the Committee decides that binding treaty action can be taken for a minor treaty action without a formal inquiry, then this decision will be noted in the next report of the Committee tabled in Parliament.
To view or print the treaties, you will need Adobe Acrobat® PDF Reader, which can be downloaded free of charge from Adobe.®
The Committee is currently considering the following minor treaty actions:
- Treaty text: Amendments, adopted on 10 May 2013, to Annex III of the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade (Geneva, 10 May 2013) (PDF 75KB)

- Treaty text: Amendment to the Agreement Establishing the South Pacific Commission: Resolution, adopted by the Eighth Conference of the Pacific Community, on extending the territorial scope of the Pacific Community to include Timor-Leste (Suva, 19 November 2013) (PDF 15KB)
Related documents: Explanatory Statement (PDF 22KB)
Printed copies of the Explanatory Statement and treaty text for the proposed Category 3 treaty action can also be obtained from the Committee Secretariat.
