Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade

The Suitability of the Australian Army for Peacetime, Peacekeeping and War

On 27 April 1999 the Minister for Defence asked the Committee to inquire into the suitability of the Australian Army for peacetime, peacekeeping and war. In conducting such an inquiry, the Committee was asked to review the current and proposed changes to Army to ensure that it provides viable and credible land forces able to meet a range of contingencies.

Written submissions are invited from organisations and individuals interested in placing evidence before the Committee. Submissions were requested by 2 July 1999. Late submissions may be considered and people wishing to make a late submission should contact the Committee Secretariat. Submissions are to be prepared with reference to the guidelines on making a submission.
