Inquiry into whistleblowing protections within the Australian Government public sector

On 10 July 2008 the Attorney-General, The Hon. Robert McClelland MP, on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, Senator the Hon. John Faulkner, asked the Committee to inquire into and report on whistleblowing protections within the Australian Government public sector.

The Committee invites interested persons and organisations to make submissions addressing the terms of reference by Friday 8 August 2008. (If you require an extension, or for further information, please contact the Committee Secretariat.) Please refer to our brochure called preparing a submission for more information.

Whilst the Committee appreciates that there exists evidence which relates to personal and specific instances of whistleblowing, the Committee’s inquiry is to develop a model for future legislation. The Committee will not be investigating or pursuing specific cases. The Committee will consider such evidence only to the extent that it may assist in general matters of principle, policy or public administration relevant to the terms of reference.

Whilst the Committee prefers for all information to be on the public record, it may consider, on an individual basis, the receipt of confidential submissions. Please contact the Committee Secretary for further information.

In order to facilitate electronic publishing of submissions, the Committee would prefer them to be emailed to laca.reps@aph.gov.au or sent on disk or CD-ROM to the Committee Secretariat in Microsoft Word® or Portable Document Format (PDF).
