Inquiry update

The inquiry was advertised in June 2002 and written submissions invited. Over 170 submissions (pdf 26KB) have been received so far.

Drawing on written submissions, the committee is conducting a program of public hearings and visits around Australia. In February 2003, the committee visited Launceston and Flinders Island in Tasmania, and Melbourne. It visited Kangaroo Island and Adelaide in April; and Wagga Wagga and Sydney in May.

The committee expects to finalise the report in the latter part of 2003.
