Inquiry into public good conservation - Impact of
environmental measures imposed on landholders
Inquiry update
The inquiry was advertised in April 2000 and written submissions invited.
So far 261 submissions have been received.
Drawing on the material in the written submissions, the committee conducted
a program of public hearings and visits to different parts of Australia.
It has held public hearings in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide
and Canberra. The committee has also visited country Victoria (Edenhope
and Colac), regional areas of Queensland (Nambour and Cardwell), western
New South Wales (Nyngan), Narrogin in Western Australia, and the Riverland
district in South Australia to learn at first hand about public good conservation
issues raised by landholders.
The committee expects to finalise its report by the middle of this year.
