Inquiry into the Appropriate Roles of
Institutes of Technical and Further Education
The University is a participating institution in the
AVCC national credit transfer arrangements for holders of TAFE Diplomas
(formally Associate Diplomas) in eleven broad fields of study; as an institution
we have been a strong supporter of articulation with the TAFE sector
over many years. This is evident from enrolment statistics where Charles
Sturt University usually exceeds both State and National averages for
TAFE enrollees in universities.
It is the University's clear belief that success in a TAFE program is
a very strong indicator of likely success in a university program. Thus,
the University's admission and credit procedures support TAFE applicants.
This model of TAFE developing students within their programs
so as to maximise the students' progression opportunities into university,
and where possible with credit, is a prime role in optimising the use
of educational resources and reflects our view on the relationship between
the sectors; discreet with maximum pathways for articulation.
This view is commended to the Standing Committee Inquiry.
