A restructure of the committee to re-establish legislation and references committees was agreed to by the Senate on 13 May 2009 and came into effect on 14 May 2009.

1 On 14 May 2009 the Senate agreed that any bill forming part of the Government's Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme be referred to the Economics Legislation Committee upon its introduction into the House of Representatives.
2 On 15 June 2009 the reference was transferred from the Economics Legislation Committee to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee.
3 On 14 May 2009 the Senate agreed that, contingent upon their introduction into the Parliament, all budget-related bills introduced after 12 May 2009 and before 5 June 2009 that are proposed to commence prior to 11 August 2009 be referred to the relevant legislation committee for inquiry and report.
4 On 13 May 2009 the Senate agreed to a committee restructure which re-established legislation and references committees. The Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee took over this reference as it was not disposed of by its predecessor committee by 13 May 2009.
