Selection of Bills Committee

Report No. 16 of 2023

The Senate adopted the report. The recommendations of the report were agreed to on Thursday, 7 December 2023.

  1. The committee met in private session on Wednesday, 6 December 2023 at 7.08 pm
  2. The committee recommends that—
    1. the provisions of the Australian Research Council Amendment (Review Response) Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 5 February 2024 (see appendix 1 for a statement of reasons for referral);
    2. the provisions of the Modern Slavery Amendment (Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner) Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 21 February 2024 (see appendix 2 for a statement of reasons for referral);
    3. the provisions of the Treasury Laws Amendment (Better Targeted Superannuation Concessions and Other Measures) Bill 2023 and the Superannuation (Better Targeted Superannuation Concessions) Imposition Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 19 April 2024 (see appendix 3 for a statement of reasons for referral); and
    4. the provisions of the Treasury Laws Amendment (Reserve Bank Reforms) Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 21 March 2024 (see appendix 4 for a statement of reasons for referral).
  3. The committee recommends that the following bill not be referred to committees:

  4. The committee deferred consideration of the following bills to its next meeting:
