Family Law Legislation Amendment (Superannuation) Bill 2000 – further extension of deadline for submissions

The Committee has been advised that there have been further delays in the issuing of the regulations associated with the Bill. These regulations relate to both the Family Law Act 1975 and the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993.

Senator Watson, the Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Superannuation and Financial Services, indicated that the Committee had determined to examine the Bill and its associated regulations as a package. In view of the delay in the issuing of the regulations by Treasury and the Attorney-General’s Department, Senator Watson, on behalf of the Committee, said that the deadline for receipt of submissions would be extended. To allow sufficient time for consideration of the Bill and its associated regulations, the date for receipt of submissions has been extended from 25 September to a date two weeks from the date of the issuing of the regulations. As yet this date has not been determined. People intending to make a submission are advised to maintain contact with the secretariat on the due date.

Because of the extension of time for submissions to be received, Senator Watson also advised that the public hearing scheduled for 6 October has been cancelled. A replacement date for the public hearing will be determined once the regulations are issued.
