Public Hearings
MONDAY 16 AND TUESDAY 17 OCTOBER 2000
The Senate Select Committee on Superannuation and Financial Services
will be holding its final Public Hearings in Canberra on Monday 16 and
Tuesday 17 October on matters relating to superannuation and financial
services. The Committee is inquiring into:
- prudential supervision and consumer protection for superannuation,
banking and financial services;
- the opportunities and constraints for Australia to become a centre
for the provision of global financial services; and
- enforcement of the Superannuation Guarantee Charge.
The purpose of the hearing on the 16 October is to take further evidence
from financial and other groups on terms of reference (a) and (c). On
17 October, the regulators (ASIC, APRA, the ATO and ACCC) and the policy
department with responsibility for superannuation, banking and financial
services (Treasury) will give evidence on these two terms of reference.
The programs for the Committees hearings are attached.
