MATTERS RELATING TO SUPERANNUATION AND FINANCIAL SERVICES - GLOBAL FINANCIAL SERVICES CENTRE

Public Hearing
14 July 2000

The Senate Select Committee on Superannuation and Financial Services will be holding a Public Hearing in Canberra on matters relating to superannuation and financial services. The Committee is inquiring into:

    1. prudential supervision and consumer protection for superannuation, banking and financial services;
    2. the opportunities and constraints for Australia to become a centre for the provision of global financial services; and
    3. enforcement of the Superannuation Guarantee Charge.

This hearing will concentrate on issues relating to (b), the global financial services centre. The Committee will hear from a broad range of groups including representatives of the Information Technology and E-commerce Industry, the Australian Greenhouse Office and the Emissions Trading Team, Education and Training experts, Treasury and the Australian Taxation Office, and an expert in the field of Asian Studies. The program for the Committee’s hearing is attached. The venue for the hearing is as follows:
