Senator O’Brien, at the request of the Chair of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee (Senator Bishop) and pursuant to notice of motion not objected to as a formal motion, moved general business notice of motion no. 125—That the time for the presentation of the report of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee on Australia’s involvement in peacekeeping operations be extended to 31 July 2008.

MATTERS REFERRED TO COMMITTEE IN PREVIOUS PARLIAMENT

Senator Moore, at the request of the Chair of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee (Senator Bishop), tabled the following report:

The Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee met on 14 February 2008 and considered references not disposed of at the end of the 41st Parliament and resolved to recommend to the Senate:

1.   That the following inquiry of the 41st Parliament be re-adopted:

      Inquiry into Australia’s involvement in peacekeeping operations (reporting date 15 May 2008).

Further, the committee resolved to recommend to the Senate that, in respect of this matter to be referred to the committee, it have the power to consider and use the records of the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee adopted in the previous Parliament.

Senator Moore moved—That the report be adopted.
