Information about the Inquiry

On 16 June 2010 the Senate referred the following matter to the Senate Finance and Public Administration Committee for inquiry and report.

Preventing the Misuse of Government Advertising Bill 2010.

The Bill proposes to establish a legislative framework for accountability of expenditure on information and advertising campaigns undertaken by Australian government departments and agencies to ensure that the campaign advertising does not contain electoral matter. The Bill also provides the Auditor-General with new functions of reviewing government information and advertising campaigns with a cost in excess of $250 000 and reporting whether they comply with the principles and guidelines set out in the Bill.

Submissions should be received by 18 June 2010. The reporting date is 21 June 2010.

The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to fpa.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
