Information about the inquiry

On 16 August 2007, the Senate referred the Commonwealth Electoral Amendment (Democratic Plebiscites) Bill 2007 to the Finance and Public Administration Committee for inquiry and report by 4 September 2007. The Bill seeks to allow the Australian Electoral Commission to undertake any plebiscite on the amalgamation of any local governing body in any part of Australia.

Written submissions are invited and should be received by Friday 24 August 2007.

The Committee requests that where possible, that submissions be provided by email to fpa.sen@aph.gov.au preferably as MS Word or RTF format documents. Persons lodging submissions should note that this inquiry is into the bill only, and to be considered relevant to the inquiry, submissions must address the provisions of the bill.

You must not release your submission without the Committee's permission. If you do, it is not protected by Parliamentary Privilege. At some stage during the inquiry, the Committee normally makes submissions public. Please indicate if you want your submission to be kept confidential.
