On 5 September 2022, the Senate referred the inquiry into Climate-related Marine Invasive Species to the Senate Environment and Communications References Committee for inquiry and report by 1 March 2023.

On 15 February 2023, the committee presented a progress report recommending an extension of time to report until 2023.

On 31 July 2023, the committee was granted an extension of time for the report until 12 September 2023.

On 11 September 2023, the committee was granted an extension of time for the report until 18 October 2023.

On 18 October 2023, the committee was granted an extension of time for the report until 2 November 2023.

The committee now requests a further extension until 3 November 2023 to allow it to consider the evidence received and to conclude its deliberations.
