Primary Schools for the Twenty First Century

Information about the Inquiry

On 09 September 2009 the Senate referred the following matter to the Senate Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Committees for inquiry and report.

(a) consideration of the Federal Government's Primary Schools for the 21st Century program, with particular reference to:

(i) the conditions and criteria for project funding,

(ii) the use of local and non-local contractors,

(iii) the role of state governments,

(iv) timing and budget issues, including duplication,

(v) requirements for school signs and plaques,

(vi) the management of the program; and

(b)other related matters.

In particular, the committee is currently seeking information directly from P21 managing contractors or builders that addresses claims being made in submissions and at hearings regarding inflated costings and failure to achieve value for money for P21 projects.

Submissions should be received by 30 July 2010. The reporting date is 17 March 2011. On 10 February 2011,the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 24 March 2011.

The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to eewr.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
