Inquiry into the Australian Technical Colleges (Flexibility in Achieving Australia's Skills Needs) Bill 2005

This bill, referred to the committee on 15 June 2005, implements an election commitment to establish technical colleges for year 11 and 12 students in 24 regions. An appropriation of $343.6 million is provided for over five years. The bill provides that the colleges will establish links with local industry, and have local community and business representatives on their governing councils. Non-government bodies and schools, as well as government schools, are eligible to form consortiums for the purpose of tendering for the establishment of colleges in each region.

The committee invites submissions from interested parties and are due by 22 July 2005. The report is listed to be tabled on 9 August 2005.
