Information about the inquiry
The Senate has referred this bill to the Employment,
Workplace Relations and Education Legislation Committee for report by 10
October 2005. The bill amends the Higher Education Support Act 2003
to require that universities and other institutions covered by the act
provide their new employees engaged after 29 April 2005, and all other
employees after 31 August 2005, with the choice of negotiating an
Australian Workplace Agreement (AWA) as an alternative to the current
certified agreement. The committee will consider and report on the merits
of this policy.
The committee invites submissions from interested parties and are due
by 16 September 2005. The report is listed to be tabled
on or before 10 October
2005.
