Information about the inquiry
On 12 October the Senate referred to the Employment, Workplace
Relations and Education Legislation Committee the Education Services for
Overseas Students Amendment Bill 2005.
The committee is considering this bill concurrently with the Higher
Education Legislation Amendment (2005 Measures No.4) Bill 2005, for the
reason that both amendments relate to the establishment of an Australian
campus of the Carnegie Mellon University.
The ESOS Act safeguards the quality of education offered to overseas
students and the reputation of educational institutions. This bill to
amend the ESOS Act is
introduced to enable foreign universities opening in Australia to offer
places to students from overseas, and to be registered accordingly.
The committee invites submissions from interested parties and are due
by 28 October 2005. The committee will report on 7
November 2005.
