Competition within the Australian banking sector

Information about the Inquiry

On 28 October 2010 the Senate referred the  topic of competition in the banking sector  to the Senate Economics Committee for inquiry and report by 31 March 2011. On 24 March 2011, the Senate granted an extension to the reporting date  until 27 April 2011. On 20 April 2011, the Committee tabled an interim report requesting an extension to the reporting date until 6 May 2011.

The Government has released a package of measures aimed at increasing competition in banking. To allow comment on these, the Committee has extended the closing date for submissions to 14 January 2011.

The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to economics.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
