Inquiry into the Provisions of the Financial Sector Legislation Amendment (Simplifying Regulation and Review) Bill 2007

On 21 June 2007, the Senate referred the provisions of the Financial Sector Legislation Amendment (Simplifying Regulation and Review) Bill 2007 to the Senate Standing Committee on Economics for report by 6 June 2007.

This is an omnibus bill containing a range of measures, including proposed changes intended to streamline and simplify prudential regulation of the financial sector; and changes intended to ensure that where a superannuation fund has suffered loss as a result of fraudulent conduct or theft, financial assistance is made available on a more equitable basis. The committee is to report to the Senate on 31 July 2007.
