Inquiry into long term strategies to address the ageing of the Australian population over the next 40 years

All Committees in the House of Representatives and joint committees of the Senate and House of Representatives for the 40th Parliament ceased to exist upon dissolution of the House of Representatives at 4:59pm, Tuesday 31 August 2004. Therefore, this inquiry has now lapsed.


Terms of reference
On 26 June 2002 the Minister for Ageing, the Hon Kevin Andrews MP, asked the Committee to inquire into the long term strategies to address the ageing of the Australian population over the next 40 years.

The inquiry will investigate a broad range of issues including the current and future adequacy of retirement incomes, workforce participation, aged care, education, housing and health.
