Summary

Amends the:

Higher Education Funding Act 1988
in relation to funding levels for certain purposes;
Higher Education Support Act 2003
in relation to: higher education provider eligibility; funding and grant levels for certain purposes, including: a new Australian Maritime College campus at Point Nepean, Victoria; a new medical school at the University of Western Sydney; additional medical school places at James Cook University, Queensland; additional nursing places; continued transitional assistance for certain regional tertiary institutions for research purposes; guidelines for certain purposes; definition of “course of study” to include combined and double degrees; Commonwealth scholarships; citizenship and residency requirements for certain student assistance; appropriate administration of FEE-HELP for Open Learning Australia (OLA) students; compliance of OLA with quality and accountability requirements;
Higher Education Support (Transitional Provisions and Consequential Amendments) Act 2003
in relation to the definition of “institution”; and
Australian National University Act 1991
to enable the Australian National University to comply with the National Governance Protocols. Also makes consequential amendments to the
Income Tax Assessment Act 1936
and contains transitional provisions.
