National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey,
The 2022–23 NATSIHS was conducted from August 2022 to March 2024. Data was collected from approximately 4,900 households around Australia, in both non-remote and remote areas, including discrete Indigenous communities. Topics include: Health conditions, Psychological distress, Disability, Use of health services, Health risk factors, Cultural determinants of health, and Housing.
2024 Mapping Social Cohesion Report, 2024
As every year, the Mapping Social Cohesion study measures and tracks Australia’s social cohesion. This measurement and tracking is multidimensional and multifaceted, combining survey and interview data from across the last 17 years and resulting in this annual report. The Scanlon Index of Social Cohesion is one important component, combining people’s responses to multiple survey questions into single measures of social cohesion and each of its five domains, allowing us to monitor social cohesion over time at a high level.

Life Expectancy, 2021-2023
Life expectancy in Australia has fallen slightly for the second straight year. The years 2021-2023 saw the highest number of COVID-19 deaths with 15,982 in Australia, which was up by 4,100 from 2020-2022. As a result, life expectancy has fallen by 0.1 years for men and 0.2 years for women over this period. Despite this decrease, Australians still have a higher life expectancy than many comparable countries, like New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Canada.

According to the latest statistics, there were 286,998 births registered in Australia in 2023, resulting in a total fertility rate (TFR) of 1.50 babies per woman. Fertility is lower than 2022 (1.63) and remaining lower than 2013 (1.88).
