Selection of Bills Committee

Report No. 3 of 2023

The Senate debated the adoption of the report. The recommendations of the report were agreed to, with amendments, on Thursday, 29 March 2023.

  1. The committee met in private session on Wednesday, 22 March 2023 at 7.25 pm.
  2. The committee recommends that—
    1. the provisions of the Education Legislation Amendment (Startup Year and Other Measures) Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 28 April 2023 (see appendix 1 for a statement of reasons for referral);
    2. the Improving Access to Medicinal Cannabis Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 1 September 2023 (see appendix 2 for a statement of reasons for referral);
    3. the provisions of the Inspector-General of Aged Care Bill 2023 and the Inspector-General of Aged Care (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 28 April 2023 (see appendix 3 for a statement of reasons for referral);
    4. the provisions of the Jobs and Skills Australia Amendment Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 24 April 2023 (see appendix 4 for a statement of reasons for referral); and
    5. the provisions of the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator (Data Streamlining) Amendment Bill 2023 be referred immediately to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 14 April 2023 (see appendix 5 for a statement of reasons for referral).
  3. The committee recommends that the following bill not be referred to committees:
    • Health Insurance Amendment (Prescribed Dental Patients and Other Measures) Bill 2023
  4. The committee deferred consideration of the following bills to its next meeting:
