Pursuant to Senate Standing Order 38(7), I present to you a progress report of the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs References Committee.
On 18 October 2018, the Senate referred an inquiry into the effectiveness of the current temporary skilled visa system in targeting genuine skills shortages to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs References Committee.
The Senate's motion of referral requires the committee to report by the first sitting day of March 2019. As the Senate does not sit in March 2019, the committee intends to table its final report for the inquiry on Tuesday, 2 April 2019.
