COVID-19 alert for Australian Parliament House

Saturday, 4 December 2021 in COVID-19

ACT Health has advised the Presiding Officers that a staff member of an MP tested positive to COVID-19 on return from Canberra to their home state of Victoria.

The case is being investigated by ACT Health, which is being assisted by the Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) and the Department of the House of Representatives.

The Presiding Officers have been briefed by ACT Health and the Commonwealth Deputy Chief Medical Officer.

ACT Health are working to identify possibly close contacts, and exposure locations at Parliament House and elsewhere in the ACT between 30 November and 2 December 2021. More information will be provided as soon as it is available.

In the meantime, if you have not been advised that you are a close contact, no action is required at this time. Please be vigilant for any COVID-19 symptoms and get tested, even if only mild symptoms appear.

DPS will notify building occupants of any action deemed necessary by ACT Health and exposure locations will be updated during tomorrow (Sunday, 5 December 2021).

Masks were mandatory in the building during the last two sitting weeks, as was use of the Check in CBR app at dining venues and no indoor seating at those venues was available to minimise any potential transmission.
