Landholders' Rights to Refuse (Gas and Coal) Bill 2015

On 5 March 2015 the Senate referred the Landholders' Right to Refuse (Gas and Coal) Bill 2015 for inquiry and report.

The closing date for submissions is 29 May 2015. The reporting date is 7 August 2015

On 24 June 2015, the Senate granted an extension of time to report until 31 August 2015.

On 10 August 2015, the Senate granted a further extension of time to report until 30 September 2015.

About this inquiry

The private senator’s bill proposes to make gas or coal mining activities undertaken without prior written authorisation from landholders unlawful and would ban constitutional corporations from engaging in hydraulic fracturing operations (fracking) for coal seam gas, shale gas and tight gas.
