The Singing Continent

Paul Paviour (born 1931), The Singing Continent op. 81; A Festival Divertimento, 1988, Gift from Dr Paul Paviour OAM, Archive Collection, Parliament House Art Collection.
During the opening ceremony of Australian Parliament House in 1988, the Australian Youth Orchestra performed The Singing Content in the Great Hall, a piece specially composed by Paul Paviour for the occasion at the request of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The finished composition is a Festival Divertimento based on traditional Australian melodies, and was dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
