On 3 September 2020, the Senate referred the provisions of the National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention Bill 2020 and the National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2020 to the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee for inquiry and report. As no reporting date was set by the Senate the committee agreed a reporting date of 30 November 2020.
