Australia’s engagement in Afghanistan

On 26 August 2021, the Senate referred Australia’s engagement in Afghanistan to the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee (the Committee). The Committee is due to present an interim report on 17 December 2021 and a final report by the first parliamentary sitting week in February 2022.

To date the committee has received 66 submissions and conducted three public hearings on 11 October, 8 and 15 November 2021.

The committee requests an extension of time for the interim report until 14 January 2022 to allow it to consider the evidence received and conclude its deliberations.
