On 25 February 2021, the Senate referred the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Save the Koala) Bill 2021 to the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 2 December 2021.

On 22 November 2021, the reporting date was extended to 16 February 2022.

On 11 February 2022, the reporting date was extended to 16 May 2022.

The committee requests a further extension of time to report until 2 August 2022 to allow it to consider the evidence received and to conclude its deliberations.
