Coalition Senators' Additional Comments

Coalition Senators' Additional Comments

1.1The Coalition broadly supports the government's proposed amendments to the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Amendment (Administrative Changes) Bill and recognises the need to streamline, expand, and update the scope of the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act 2012 in recognition of the growing and changing technological and emissions-based landscape as Australia seeks to meet its legislated commitments by 2030.

1.2While the Coalition is predominantly comfortable with the proposal, we note the concerns raised by the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment Manufacturers Association of Australia (AREMA) and raised them with the Committee.

1.3The government has sought to work constructively with Coalition Senators to address our concerns through the provision of a briefing from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

1.4Following consultation, the Coalition believes the stated aims of the bill will be met through these proposed amendments.

1.5The Coalition thanks Labor Senators and other Committee members for their good-faith interactions with the Opposition in allaying our various concerns on behalf of AREMA and other stakeholders.

Recommendation 1

1.6The Coalition recommends the bill be passed.
