Chapter 4 - Elections
for the Senate
Recounts
Recounts normally occur only when the result of an election is very
close. At any time before the declaration of the result of an election, the
officer conducting the election may, at the written request of a candidate or
on the officer’s own decision, recount some or all of the ballot papers. The
Electoral Commissioner or an Australian Electoral Officer may direct a recount.
