Committee Office
The Senate has an extensive committee system which investigates all manner of policy and legislation. The committees consider the activities of all Commonwealth agencies and analyse Government’s budgetary proposals and the performance of its responsibilities. Any questions relating to the operation of committees, particular inquiries, committee reports, how to participate in committee inquiries and how to monitor the committee inquiries of the Senate can be handled by the Committee Office of the Department of the Senate.
Senate Committees home page provides a list of committee activities, public hearings and current inquiries, advice on how to make a submission to a committee and any procedural information required about committee operations.
The activities of the Senate’s committees interact directly with the activities of the Senate chamber and the progress of legislation.
A common area for confusion is between Senate, House of Representatives and Joint Committees. For a comprehensive listing of Committees.
Inquiries can be made directly to the specific committee directly by using the phone number on that committee’s home page.
