Annual Report 2007–08

Purchasing

The department used the break in sittings of the House for the election in 2007–08 to undertake significant procurement of IT hardware (laptops, printers and desktops) in accordance with life-cycle management planning. The majority of these purchases were completed through contracts managed by the Department of Parliamentary Services. The department also signed a new agreement for Microsoft Office licences in 2007–08 (again through a contract managed by the Department of Parliamentary Services).

Furniture purchases were not significant during 2007–08. The department will undertake further planning in 2008–09 on replacement strategies for some office furniture (in the staff accommodation areas managed by the department, rather than Member’s suites). With the 20th anniversary of the opening of the building this year some of the stock of furniture is beginning to show signs of wear and tear and may need to be replaced if it cannot continue to be maintained efficiently. The present funding situation will need to be taken into account as part of this planning.

The department will review its Chief Executive Instructions during 2008–09 and there will be a focus on revised procurement policy.

All purchasing activity conducted during 2007–08 was conducted within financial delegation limits. The department has complied with core purchasing policies and principles as articulated in the Commonwealth Procurement Guidelines.
