OutlookIn financial year 200203 the matter most likely to have a significant impact on the management and accountability responsibilities of the department will be the finalisation, and resultant recommendations, of the Podger review. As noted in the Clerks introduction and elsewhere in this report, the Parliamentary Service Commissioner, Andrew Podger, commenced a review of parliamentary administration in the latter half of financial year 200102. Mr Podger focused on the administration of security, management and corporate functions across the Parliament, and on purchasing arrangements. Although the effects of the recommendations of the Podger review will not be known until well into financial year 200203, and will be reported on in next years annual report, it is likely that they will have a significant impact on the way financial, human resource and other common services are provided across the parliamentary departments. Setting aside potential changes arising from the review, the implementation of the new FMIS and the upgrade to the next version of PeopleSoft will improve the provision of financial and human resource services in 200203. The strategy to be developed from the departments workplace planning exercises will assist the department to meet the challenges of its future staffing needs. Other key priorities identified in the corporate plan also will affect the departments management and accountability responsibilities. Those priorities include:
