Deb McKay (born 1967), Abundance, 2022, Parliament House Art Collections. 

Abundance by Deb McKay is an intricate sculpture recently acquired for the Rotational Collection within the Parliament House Art Collections. McKay uses intricate ceramic techniques to depict and explore patterns in nature.

To create the porcelain sculpture, McKay hand rolled each individual component. McKay explores in the work the similarities between the materiality of clay to the natural environment, as clay and natural ecosystems are both characterised by their duality in being both durable and fragile. This sculpture represents these paradoxical characteristics, as well as in the intricate layers revealing the technical expertise of McKay’s practice.
