Salary on Commencement

Download this document (PDF 103KB)

Information for Applicants

Applicants are advised that the Department of the Senate’s Employee Collective Agreement and Recruitment and Selection Policy outlines the arrangements regarding salary on commencement.

New employees and promotees

New employees and promotees will be paid at the minimum point of the applicable salary range that is in effect at the date of commencement or promotion; unless, having regard to the experience, qualifications and skills of the employee, the Clerk of the Senate (or delegate) authorises payment above the minimum salary point in the applicable salary range.

Transfers at level

Ongoing Australian Parliamentary or Public Service employees who move to the Department of the Senate (on an ongoing or a non-ongoing basis) and are employed at the equivalent classification level, prior to the move but are on a salary point which does not translate to this department’s salary structure, will be paid at the next highest salary point within the Senate’s classification level.  Where employees are on a salary higher than the maximum salary point within the Senate’s equivalent classification level, they will commence on the salary they received immediately prior to commencing with the Senate.

The department’s classification and salary scale is copied over-page.

Prior to commencing with the department, the successful applicant will be contacted by a representative from the Senate Human Resource Management section to discuss salary arrangements.
