Annual Report 2005–06

Ethical standards

Parliamentary Service Values and departmental policies

The Parliamentary Service Values and Code of Conduct, set out in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999, provide a framework for the department’s ethical conduct. The department promotes sound ethical behaviour through a number of departmental policies which describe specific standards and behaviours expected of staff and by regularly publishing articles in the weekly staff bulletin.

Clerk’s Instructions

The Clerk’s Instructions direct employees on the proper use and management of departmental resources. Minor reviews of various chapters of the Instructions occurred during the year, primarily to ensure that they remained up to date in the context of Australian Government policies and better practices generally.

No serious breaches of the Clerk’s Instructions were reported or detected during the year.

Social justice and equity impacts

The department does not administer public programs, and thus does not directly implement a social justice strategy.
