Chapter 8 - Conduct
of proceedings
Presentation
of other documents
Reports from committees and other
documents ordered by the Senate to be produced may be tabled, documents may be
presented by ministers (apart from those which have a specified time for
consideration in the routine of business) and documents required by statute to
be tabled may be presented, at any time when there is no other business before
the chair. (SO 63 refers to
reports of committees and documents ordered to be produced; SO 166 to documents
tabled by ministers and under statute.) Such documents are usually presented
before business is commenced in the afternoon and may be debated on motions
moved by leave. Such motions are subject to special time limits: 30 minutes per
motion, 60 minutes for all motions moved consecutively and 5 minutes per
speaker (SO 169(2)).
