Inquiry into provisions of the Workplace Relations Amendment (Termination of Employment) Bill 2002

The Workplace Relations Amendment (Termination of Employment) Bill 2002 was referred to the Senate Employment, Workplace Relations and Education Legislation Committee on 11 December 2002. The report is due to be tabled on 18 March 2003.

This bill proposes to amend the Workplace Relations Act 1996 to provide for workers employed by corporations to come within the scope of the Federal unfair dismissal legislation jurisdiction, and that workers within the scope of the Federal system will be governed by it rather than by any State unfair dismissal law. This will cover about 85 per cent of all employees .
