Inquiry into the Australian Citizenship Amendment (Allegiance to Australia) Bill 2015

On 24 June 2015, the Attorney-General, Senator the Hon George Brandis QC, asked the Committee to inquire into and report on the Australian Citizenship Amendment (Allegiance to Australia) Bill 2015.

The Bill contained measures to specify circumstances in which an Australian dual national is taken to have lost their Australian citizenship.

The Attorney-General also asked the Committee to consider whether proposed section 35A of the Bill (the conviction-based cessation) should apply retrospectively with respect to convictions prior to the commencement of the Act.

The Committee tabled its report on Friday, 4 September 2015.
