Inquiry into the Arrangements Surrounding Crimes Committed at Sea

About the inquiry

The Committee received terms of reference for an inquiry into the Arrangements Surrounding Crimes Committed at Sea from the Attorney General, The Hon Nicola Roxon MP, on 11 September 2012. The Committee agreed to adopt the terms of reference for the inquiry, as referred by the Attorney General, on Thursday 13 September 2012.

The inquiry was referred as part of the government response to the recommendations of the New South Wales Coronial inquest into the tragic death of Ms Dianne Brimble. The focus of the inquiry is on the jurisdiction and investigation of crimes against the person, which includes fatal, non-fatal and sexual offences committed on cruise and merchant ships.


The Committee requests interested individuals and organisations to make submissions addressing the Terms of Reference by Friday 23 November 2012. Please refer to our brochure called preparing a submission for more information.
